Earlier in the week, the Cuban government widely celebrated and greeted with fanfare a separate vessel that had carried a significant amount of relief supplies to the island.

That vessel, called "a modern Granma" following the name of the yacht in which Fidel Castro came back to Cuba to start the Cuban Revolution in the mid-20th century, carried photovoltaic panels, medicines, infant formula, bikes and food.
