The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
