The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman containing multiple personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four separate souls, each with unique fears and drives. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The core mechanic involves controlling the persona that emerges at any given time. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have large flowers growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the body belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining could be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
