Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
