Far-Right Former Lawmaker J.A. Kast Elected as Chile's New President.
In a decisive second-round vote, far-right figure José Antonio Kast has clinched the top job in Chile.
A Clear-Cut Victory
With more than 99% of polling stations reporting, Kast secured 58.17% of the ballots, defeating leftist former minister Jeannette Jara, who obtained 41.83%.
This represents Kast's third bid for the presidency, having previously been beaten by the incumbent president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 final vote.
Agenda Centered On Security and Migration
Noted for his staunch socially conservative views and admiration for the era of dictator Augusto Pinochet, Kast's platform was primarily built on promises to address rising insecurity and significantly restrict immigration.
