Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
